  Principles and Practices

Fire inspections are essential to maintain a satisfactory standard for fire safety in buildings and to ensure the protection, conservation and consequent minimization of risks to life and property. Inspections limit the risk of life and property losses from fire by identifying and causing the correction of those conditions which contribute to the occurrence and spread of fire.

Fire Departments are usually tasked with conducting a fire inspection program through the requirements of Provincial Legislation.  The fire inspection program uses personnel assigned to a fire prevention division or fire fighters and officers stationed at a fire hall.  The fire inspection program serves to educate business and property owners in fire safety by increasing their knowledge and increase their awareness with fire prevention and safety.

This course will provide an introduction to fire inspection principles and practices illustrating the complexity of today's building designs and systems and their potential impact on life, the environment and property. The courses are each designed to be completed within 1 to 1 and one-half hours.

These courses has been developed to provide those persons newly assigned the task of conducting fire inspections with an introductory level or basic knowledge of what to look for when conducting an inspection. The courses are intended for inspectors with less than 1-year experience, fire fighters and fire officers conducting Company or In-Service inspections and those persons who do not frequently conduct inspections. The courses would also be of interest to property managers and supervisory staff assigned the responsibility of fire safety within a building.
